Biographical Note

Miguel Ângelo Ferreira Morais Valerio, born in Vila Real, completed a bachelor degree in Social Work (5 years degree) in the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) with a final grade of 16, a specialization in Social Intervention in Criminology at the Gaya Polytechnic Institute (ISPGaya) with final grade of “Very Good” and a Masters in Social Work at the Miguel Torga Superior Institute (ISMT) with a final grade of “Good”.

Was monitor of the bachelor degree in Social Work in UTAD, between 2001 and 2005, and coordinator of the Direct Intervention Team (area of ​​drug abuse) at Projeto Homem de Vila Real between 2002 and 2005, which (beyond the usual role of these teams) has coordinated and streamlined more than two dozen of actions of training and / or awareness in the area of ​​addictions.

In UTAD, between 2002 and 2011, was a collaborator of the Department of Education and Psychology (having taken different positions on the Coordination Committee of the degree in Social Work).

Since 2005, also worked in the School of Social and Community Development at ISPGaya, where he was an assistant professor (between 2005 and 2010) and adjunct professor (between 2010 and 2012). Throughout this period he taught several courses of Bachelor in Social Work, also assuming duties as Coordinator of the Degree in Social Work from September 2007 until December 2009, when he took over (until March 2011) the coordination of Technological Specialization Course in Social Work and Community Development at the same institution.

In 2009, by invitation of the Institute of Social Security, Public Institute, served as Supervisor of Tthe professional and educational Teams of 2 Children’s homes in the district of Vila Real, under the Plan DOM (Challenges, Opportunities and Changes).

Between February 2009 and March 2012, belonged to the direction of the Association for Research and Debate in Social Work, assuming the valences of monitoring and training in Social Work and monitoring of professional activity. In 2010 assumed the direction of the scientific journal “Research and Debate – Social Work”, and since 2011 was also president of the Pedagogical Council of the Institute for Human and Social Formation (part of the association responsible for the professional development training). In this position within the institute has designed, coordinated and taught various modules and short courses, specialization and graduate.

Was also a “Social Judge” at the Court for Family and Juvenile of Vila Nova de Gaia.

From January 2013 until the Summer of 2014 worked as a researcher at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, carry out their duties under the Project “Capacitate for Qualification and Innovation in Minho-Lima Social Networks”. This was a UE funded research project.

Since October 2014 at FEVACA (UK), worked as manager of a supported housing project, assuming the implementation and service management of all projects in Buckinghamshire in January 2018. Since December 2018 he’s also the Responsible Individual of the Residential Children’s Homes.

Has being part of various committees (scientific and organizing) of various scientific events (national and international), having participated in several scientific events (with oral communications and posters) at a national and international level, publishing articles in his areas of research within the domain of Social Work and Social Service, of which highlights the participation in the XIX World Conference of Social Work and Ist ENSACT European Joint Conference.
